Hypnotherapy Diploma Training from afar but NOT Distance Learning

Social distancing doesnt have to mean distant/online learning…

COVID-19 has presented us with a real challenge in regards to delivering our hypnotherapy diploma training. Normally, we would have up to 12 students in the class. However, to be able to maintain some level of social distancing we have decided to limit that to only 6 in the current circumstances.

The obvious answer is to adapt the course to a distance/online learning course. Now distance/online learning as definitely a valid method of learning, many universities offer the option. However, for hypnotherapy diploma training, we have always felt that any distance/online learning is inadequate in the quality of the training delivered. Because hypnotherapy is a practical profession and you have to be present with the client to deliver an effective session with them. And we believe the same goes for hypnotherapy diploma training.

Hypnotherapy Diploma Training

However, technology has moved on and the COVID-19 has encouraged us to explore new ways of consulting online to meet the ever-increasing demands for our hypnotherapy. So when COVID-19 struck we moved to working with clients on-line. We had to adapt to be able to help our clients.

It has proved to be successful in every regard. The only stumbling block we have encountered is that some clients can’t get the privacy in their homes, but we have even got around that with clients actually taking the sessions in their car away from the home.

So this got us to thinking about our Hypnotherapy Diploma Training…

Distance/online learning offers people the opportunity to work in their own time, but it is far from ideal. To use distance/online learning you need self-motivation, more discipline, good organisation and planning skills. Because the instructor is not seated in front of you, you don’t get direct access and hence you lose the personal interaction with the instructor, such as asking questions and getting the feedback and general group dynamics that a classroom offers.

Distance/online learning does not offer immediate feedback. In a traditional classroom setting, a student’s performance can be immediately assessed through questions and informal testing. With distance/online learning, a student has to wait for feedback until the instructor has reviewed their work and responded to it. Further, in hypnotherapy training, We need to be able to assess students oral communication skills and the way they deliver the hypnosis and suggestions. We also need to guide them on how to deal with difficult situations appropriately and ethically.

For all these reasons we have decided that distance/online learning for our hypnotherapy diploma training is not a satisfactory option. However, with the COVID-19 crisis, we have had to think long and hard as we have students booked in. And these students are really keen to become hypnotherapists.

The Answer is in Technology…

We have decided to use technology to help us deliver the in-class experience but on-line. So we have devised a way for us to have some students virtually present in the class. They will be able to interact with the in-class students and instructor in real-time. This will involve lots of cameras, cables and lighting our end that you don’t need to worry about. From the students end they will need a computer that has a camera, a microphone and a good internet connection. It could even be done with a tablet, like an iPad.

We plan for the students to have a virtual presence in the room. They will be able to interact, watch lectures and demonstrations, do the practice sessions. This is how we are working with clients at the moment. Online students will be able to take part in discussions and problem-solving workshops that are all important parts of our course.

So effectively, we are offering our course as, a face-to-face interactive and dynamic virtual classroom experience. The student will be expected to be online all day and get involved just like they would in the classroom. The student will be able to do everything that they can do in the class, except for, drinking our coffee and eating our biscuits. The good news for the online students is they won’t need to travel or get accommodation if they aren’t local.

However, because of the complexities in delivering this level of integration we are currently only offering 4 places online. We are offering 4 places on both our intensive and weekend courses. Also, we are only planning to do this whilst the COVID-19 crisis is happening.

So if you would like to join us online don’t delay go to Hypnotherapy Diploma Course

Hidden anxiety

Millions of people are affected by anxiety every year. Many live and cope with their anxiety on their own, suffering quietly. Anxiety is something we all experience at some time in our lives, but for most, it is just a short term experience.

Anxiety affects us both physically and psychologically and in its normal form will help us stay alert, flag up any danger and help us with all round performance.

The panic and adrenaline that anxiety produces is what kept our forebears alert and alive and is referred to as the ‘fight or flight’ response. Even though we don’t have the dangers that our ancestors did, adrenaline still helps us today. However, in excess it can, in many cases, work against us, causing us to have panic and fear when there is nothing to worry about.

Enduring a great deal of anxiousness for a long time can have an unhealthy impact on a person’s life.

Panic, fear, lack of sleep, palpitations, dizziness, feeling sick and anxiety attacks are just some of the symptoms connected with anxiety. Just the thought of getting through the day is enough to produce anxiousness, and sufferers do not know how to stop the worry cycle. Chronic anxiety can impact anyone at any time of their life, even though it is reported to be more common in childhood and early adulthood.

Many people with this condition report they feel like they’re ‘going mad’. They think that no one could understand them and truly feel uncomfortable and ashamed. They suffer in silence, hiding their issue from friends, family, children and colleagues. Their confidence in their body and mind is no longer there, so they put up an emotional and behavioural pretence.

Sad to say, it’s common practice for victims to hide this issue, believing there’s just no hope. But this can, in fact, feed the anxiousness and make it much worse.

Discovering and taking care of the root cause of the issue is the most effective way of removing the anxiety. If there is no longer an underlying reason, there will no longer be an effect.

Hypnotherapy techniques are extremely helpful in alleviating anxiety and tackling the underlying difficulties. Hypnotherapy helps the person discover new techniques for thinking, feeling and coping with their problems.

A hypnotherapist will aim to diminish a person’s detrimental views by suggesting favourable feelings to the subconscious. The mind is a very powerful thing, and hypnotherapy uses the resources of our subconscious mind to regain influence over our thoughts.

Paul Howard, an anxiety specialist from The Surrey Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy, based in Surrey, said, “Anxiety comes in many shapes and sizes and, therefore, it is crucial to understand each client’s triggers and beliefs about their anxiety. Once a good understanding has been reached, it is normally fairly straightforward to adjust and refocus their thoughts onto a more appropriate path.”

The Surrey Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy is committed to raising awareness to the help that hypnotherapy can bring to sufferers of anxiety issues. They have specialists that cover various issues such as anxiety, weight control, insomnia, psoriasis and smoking. They have been in practice since 2002 and have male and female therapists on staff.

Don’t exercise, if you want to lose weight!

Three studies that will change your thoughts about diet and exercise, and you’ll love the third…

We all know that the best way to ward off unwanted weight is through diet and exercise. But, according to new research from Arizona State University, burning more calories than you eat may not result in changes on the scales.

It has always been assumed that if you exercise consistently, fat will melt off and muscle will form in its place. Exercise has health benefits in every way except weight loss, and this is because it can actually cause you to gain weight, instead of losing.

Researchers from Arizona State University analysed 81 overweight, sedentary women to find out how effective exercise is in regards to weight loss. The women walked three times per week for 30 minutes on the treadmill, for 12 weeks.

Shocking for all of us who intensely work up a sweat (and believe that sweat is our fat crying), the study found that while some women became fitter, many actually gained weight. The researchers discovered that working out did improve the participant’s fitness levels; however, extra exercise did not result in weight loss. 70 percent of the study participants gained weight during the study and most of that weight was from body fat.

More and more research, in both the UK and the US, is emerging to show that exercise has a negligible impact on weight loss. What about doing an aerobics class three times a week? Almost worthless as far as fitting into that little black dress is concerned.

The Mayo Clinic, a not-for-profit medical research establishment in the US, reports that, in general, studies “have demonstrated no or modest weight loss with exercise alone” and that “an exercise regimen… is unlikely to result in short-term weight loss beyond what is achieved with dietary change.”

It sounds quite unorthodox, if not downright flippant, and it’s a scientific discovery that most health professionals are, naturally, keen to downplay.

After all, exercise is still good for us. It’s just that, in defiance of decades of New Year resolutions, it’s unlikely to make us slim.

What Type of Eater Are You?

There’s another, more insidious, problem with pinning all your hopes for a holiday body on exercise.

In what has become a defining experiment at the University of Louisiana, led by Dr Timothy Church, hundreds of overweight women were put on exercise regimes for a six-month period. Some worked out for 72 minutes each week, some for 136 minutes, and some for 194. A fourth group kept to their normal daily routine with no additional exercise.

Against all the laws of natural justice, at the end of the study, there was no significant difference in weight loss between those who had exercised – some of them for several days a week – and those who hadn’t (Church doesn’t record whether he told the women who he’d had training for three and half hours a week, or whether he was wearing protective clothing when he did). Some of the women even gained weight.

Church identified the problem and called it “compensation”: those who exercised, cancelled out the calories they had burned by eating more, generally as a form of self-reward. The post-workout pastry to celebrate a job well done – or even a few pieces of fruit to satisfy their stimulated appetites – undid their good work. In some cases, they were less physically active in their daily life as well.

The good news is the latest scientific findings from the US suggest that an intense workout in the gym is less effective than gentle exercise, in terms of weight loss. Barry Braun, Associate Professor of Kinesiology at the University of Massachusetts, says that the evidence emerging from his research team shows that moderate exercise such as “low-intensity ambulation” (i.e. walking) may help to burn calories “without triggering a calorific compensation effect” – i.e. without making you reach for a snack the moment you’re done. In one experiment, Braun showed that simply standing up, instead of sitting, used up hundreds more calories a day without increasing appetite hormones in your blood.

What all this research shows is that, in reality, there is little or no connection to exercise and weight loss.

It’s fairly clear to us that the expectation that anybody who is overweight needs to exercise, is highly detrimental to the process of losing weight.

At the Surrey Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy, we specifically advise our weight loss clients against increasing their exercise routine, especially in the early stages of our weight loss programme. We have our clients “defocus” on food, we give them a simple-to-follow and easy-to-implement eating plan and completely dismiss the notion of increasing exercise.

The result is a virtual guarantee of significant weight loss and while that is happening, we work with the client to create and reinforce more appropriate eating behaviours and help them to make far better decisions when it comes to food.

How you can achieve your goals utilising a hypnotherapeutic processes

Jumping Goldfish SF424690SIt is good to have goals to work towards in life, but with so many pressures on our work and home life, it is usually hard to achieve our goals as other activities tend to get in the way, or perhaps you feel that you lack the motivation and perseverance.

Maybe you are saving money for a new home, trying to get a promotion at work or even lose some weight Planning your goals and working towards them may be easier said than done, even with good intentions. There are usually family issues or other responsibilities that get in the way and seem to stop us every step of the way. Sadly, you may then really feel deflated and discouraged when you find yourself unable to reach your goals.

Amazingly, the inability to achieve those goals might have other repercussions. You can feel less confident and anxious about your capability to achieve something. Accordingly, this can keep you from progressing in your job or home life and these feelings can deter you from trying to reach future goals.

Fortunately, working towards your objectives does not have to be as difficult as you think, because there is help and support available to help you in the process.

Such as hypnotherapy, which has been shown to be very useful at helping people to change their thought processes and eventually how they behave. This can help you to feel genuinely more self-assured and focused on achieving your goals. A part of the process will be to help you to break down the goal into small steps, so you view each step as an attainable task. By working towards your objectives in small chunks, it will help you to stay motivated and focused on the final goal, making the entire process really feel easier.

Hypnotherapy will also help to prevent any anxiousness about not achieving your objectives, as well as boosting your confidence in your ability to achieve whatever you set your mind to. A side-effect of removing the anxiety is that you feel less stressed in other areas of your life, and this can only benefit you.

Achieving your goals is not just about the end result, but quite a few aspects, including empowerment, drive, determination and advanced planning. These are just some of the things that hypnotherapy can help you to achieve and are simple tasks for our hypnotherapists.

Unhealthy opinions of yourself should be replaced with constructive beliefs and feelings, permitting you to plan and prepare for future success. Over time, you will probably see significant improvements, and start to have new ambitions to achieve a lot more!

Paul Howard, from The Surrey Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy, based in Surrey, explained why, in their view, hypnotherapy is extremely effective at helping people to achieve their goals.  He said “So often we see people that really want to achieve something but are just unable to even get started. This is normally because the task seems so big that they just don’t know where to start. This means they lose focus and motivation very quickly. With hypnotherapy we can help the client to break down the goal into manageable tasks and bring the goal back into focus, leading to a much better outcome.”

Hypnotherapy for weight loss

Lots of people are turning to hypnotherapy treatments for a variety of problems, as opposed to conventional approaches. Excessive weight and over eating is now widespread and is causing massive problems for the individual and society in general.

There is a plethora of diets on the market, each offering miracle cures to weight loss and reducing our intake of food. There are always lots of claims without much substance.

Most people that come for hypnotherapy for weight loss have tried many other weight reduction techniques without success.

Hypnotherapy for weight loss approaches look to make changes within the subconscious mind, which can make a significant difference to the way we relate to food and our desire to eat.

Our hypnotherapy for weight loss system will consider the many different elements that might contribute to unnecessary eating and obesity. Things like the learned behaviours that we acquired whilst growing.

We would also address things like:-

  • Patterns of eating
  • Food cravings
  • Quality of the diet
  • Portion control
  • Dietary habits
  • Understanding how to eat properly
hypnotherapy for weight loss

Hypnotherapy tends to focus on behavioural change instead of what is allowed or not allowed. Most diets, if not all, tend NOT to consider many of these essential aspects that all have to be addressed for weight management to be productive and maintained successfully.

What Type of Eater Are You?

What diets don’t generally tell you is that the body reduces metabolism, so you need even fewer calories in order to maintain weight loss, this suppression can last from anything up to 6 years and the hormones that change within the body as a result of dieting make it increasingly difficult to lose weight and keep it off.

Hypnotherapy for weight loss for success

Hypnotherapy is successful in taking care of those who are obese or overweight as it understands the person on many levels and gains an understanding of the relationship their mind has with food. Using hypnotherapeutic treatments a person’s mindset towards food can be changed. In some cases the hypnotherapist will help the customer overcome any problems with powerful yearnings and motivation as the programme progresses making it easier to remain on course and succeed. To sum up making use of hypnotherapy specialist techniques can tackle the problems connected with dieting as well as keeping the motivation high and helping to change the habits around food.

Paul Howard from The Surrey Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy based in Surrey explained why in their view hypnotherapy is extremely effective in alleviating inappropriate behaviours and thought around food, “The facts are that you have been hypnotised all your life to eat certain foods for pleasure. Things like chocolate are often given as a treat or reward for good behaviour. This creates an association between chocolate and pleasure i.e. a learnt behaviour or conditioned response. So our job is to de-hypnotise you so you can view these foods for what they are! Just food that happens to taste nice.”
